Dominic Calvert-Lewin says Everton must work with cool heads and "reset and recover" ahead of a showdown with Crystal Palace under the Goodison Park lights on Thursday.

The Blues were frustrated on home soil on Sunday, twice surrendering the lead to lose 3-2 against Brentford in a contest that saw them end the game with nine men.

There was an element of controversy, too, with a key sequence in the contest ending in the first-half dismissal of Jarrad Branthwaite for a professional foul, rather than a penalty for Everton seconds earlier.

But Calvert-Lewin insists there were positives to take from the clash, as focus now switches to the visit of Palace, knowing a win would secure the Club's Premier League status for next term.

"It is absolutely still in our hands," said the striker afterwards. "You know what, I thought [against Brentford] we dug deep and showed a lot of spirit... We stuck together and we worked and we grafted.

"After going down to 10 men [after 18 minutes], it was a long time to keep defending.

"Brentford have good quality players and they put balls in the box, so it’s difficult at times.

"We just have to pick ourselves up - we're disappointed, but we know that we have another opportunity on Thursday to go again. 

"The chat after the game there is positive despite the result because we have an opportunity in our hands to go out and get three points and keep ourselves in the league.

"That’s what we are focusing on now. 

"We just have to rest and recover and work as hard as we possibly can on Thursday to get the result."

Having been hampered by a troublesome quadriceps injury for the majority of the campaign, Calvert-Lewin registered on the scoresheet for the first time since August against the Bees.

His final touch may have been slight, but the 25-year-old says the strike provided a welcome confidence boost heading into the final two games of the season.

The striker is now eyeing more goals to reward the incredible support shown by Evertonians, who again lined the streets surrounding Goodison Park in their thousands to welcome the team coach to the stadium.

"[The first goal] came off me but unfortunately, it’s nothing to amount to today," he explained. "But it was good for myself to get back on the scoresheet.

"We look forward now. We are all aware of where we are and we want to do it for ourselves, the manager and the fans.

"The fans have been massively important... Fantastic.

"You see the way that we get welcomed into the stadium, I’ve never witnessed anything like it. 

"It’s been special, they’ve been behind us and they have played a massive part in us getting results in these past few weeks.

"It will be no different on Thursday. We need their support, we need everyone in the stadium to get behind us and go and win the game."
