What The Papers Say - December 6

Thursday’s Daily Mail features Marco Silva, who praises Jordan Pickford’s “quality” performance in Everton’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

As the Blues poured forward in search of a winner late on, the Toffees stopper produced two fine stops as the visitors countered, both times repelling efforts from Christian Atsu.

In the Liverpool Echo, meanwhile, Kurt Zouma says Pickford “showed he is one of the best ‘keepers in the world".

Boss Silva also features in the local read. The Portuguese explains his satisfaction with Everton’s positive reaction after falling behind against Newcastle but admits he was frustrated his side could not conjure up a winner after Richarlison levelled the scores.

“In the first half we were better and we had opportunities to score the second goal,” he said. "But in the second half we were slower… and we didn’t create enough chances to change the result.”

The Echo also reflects on another impressive display by Andre Gomes, declaring he was “once again the best player on the pitch”.
