Carragher On How 'Impressive' Silva Is Shaping Resilient Everton

The speed at which Marco Silva has implemented his positive philosophy at Everton has been impressive, while explosive Brazilian forward Richarlison is on course to prove one of the signings of the season.

Those are the views of Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, who spoke to evertonfc.com ahead of Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Anfield.

Everton head into the clash having won five of their previous seven top-flight matches – a series of results which has seen the Blues rise to sixth in the Premier League table.

Ex-England centre-back Carragher credited Toffees boss Silva for shaping an Everton side that combines resilience with attacking ambition.

And while highlighting the blistering start Richarlison has made to his Everton career – the 21-year-old has hit six Premier League goals already this season – he saluted the influence of each of the Blues’ summer arrivals.

The Toffees brought in six full internationals during the latest transfer window, with Richarlison joined by compatriot Bernard, Frenchman Kurt Zouma and Barcelona trio Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes.

“I’ve been really impressed with Marco Silva,” Carragher told evertonfc.com.

“I think the signings have come in and made a big difference, too. As a manager, you want your signings to do well, and it looks like every one of them has made impact.

“I’ve watched Silva’s teams play since he first came into the Premier League at Hull and they’ve always been very well organised.

“I think that’s what we’ve seen at Everton up until now. He’s brought in Richarlison, who looks fantastic. He looks like one of the best signings in the league at this stage.”

Carragher also revealed his admiration for how Colombia centre-back Mina has adapted to Premier League football.

The 24-year-old followed up his commanding display on his full Everton debut at Chelsea - when the Blues drew 0-0 to become the first side to prevent Maurizio Sarri’s men from scoring at Stamford Bridge this season – with another polished performance in the 1-0 victory over Cardiff City on Saturday.

Everton top scorer Gylfi Sigurdsson, who secured the three points against Neil Warnock’s side with his seventh goal of the season, also drew praise from Carragher.

“I was at the Chelsea game and I thought Yerry Mina was very good,” he said.

“I enjoyed his performance and we gave him the man of the match.

“And Sigurdsson looks like he’s showing the type of player we know he can be.”

Everton will look to maintain their fine recent form when they travel across Stanley Park to take on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Sunday.

And having been impressed with the Toffees' authoritative display against Chelsea, Carragher is expecting a closely-fought contest at Anfield.

“If Everton perform the way they did at Chelsea, it will be a difficult game for Liverpool,” he added.

“Playing at home, Liverpool will be favourites, but I think Everton will be a tough nut to crack if they can replicate that performance at Stamford Bridge.”
