Everton 'On The Up', Says Walcott

Theo Walcott declared Everton “are on the way up” as he revealed his excitement about playing in a Blues side with such attacking intent.

The 29-year-old was instrumental in a vibrant Toffees display against Leicester City on Saturday as Marco Silva’s men triumphed 2-1 at the King Power Stadium.

Alongside playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson, flying winger Bernard and lone frontman Richarlison, Walcott completed an attacking quartet boasting a potent mixture of flair, express pace and technical brilliance.

Walcott has kicked off the season in fine form, hitting three goals to date and chipping in with two assists.

The England international says he is relishing playing in an expressive, ambitious Everton team and is convinced Silva’s side will continue to improve.

“Looking back at the game, we did play some fantastic stuff,” said Walcott, who signed for the Toffees from Arsenal in January.

“We worked really hard coming into the match after the disappointment [against Southampton] earlier in the week. So to come back and get the three points was important.

“We’re on 12 points now going into the international break - we’re on the way up. It’s nice to be in a winning team and I’m very pleased with the football we played.”

A close-range volley from Richarlison and a sensational long-range effort from Gylfi Sigurdsson proved the difference at Leicester as Everton wrapped up back-to-back Premier League victories.

The strikes mean Richarlison, Sigurdsson and Walcott have now scored a combined 12 goals already this season.

The other member of the Blues front four on Saturday, Bernard, also produced an eye-catching display in what was just his second Everton start.

The Brazilian created four chances and completed five dribbles during the game – totals not bettered by any player on the pitch – while his mazy run and pinpoint centre allowed Richarlison to slot home the opener.

It was Sigurdsson who would grab the headlines, however, after his stunning winner. Having seen the Icelander size up the shot from 30 yards, Walcott revealed it was no shock to see the ball nestle in the top corner of the net.

“The goal itself deserves to win the game – it was incredible,” he said. "His goals are brilliant.

“Gylfi practises every day in training. He’s the last one off the field so I’m not surprised at all [to see him score a goal like that].”
