Holgate Wants Winner's Medal

Mason Holgate has sent a message to Everton’s title-chasing Under-23s: Good luck and please bring me a home a winner’s medal!

Defender Holgate will be looking to make his fifth consecutive outing for Ronald Koeman’s first team this weekend when the Toffees travel to West Ham United’s London Stadium.

However, the 20-year-old has made seven appearances for David Unworth’s side this season, qualifying him for a medal should the young Blues go on to clinch the Premier League 2 crown.

Unsworth’s charges head to Aldershot to face Chelsea on Friday, five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City with two games to go and boasting a favourable goal difference.

Should they fail to collect the result they need, they will have a second chance to secure top spot when Liverpool head to Goodison Park on Monday 8 May.

“I’ll definitely be keeping tabs on what’s going on during the game,” Holgate told evertontv. “As a footballer you want to win things, so I hope I get my medal and a reward at the end of the season for the hard work the Under-23s have put in.

”I’ve been keeping an eye on them pretty much since the title run-in looked on and I still feel very involved with them. It’s like I’ve got two teams, so I’m always checking on how they’re playing and how they’re getting on.

“All of the lads in that team are my mates because I’ve played a lot with them as well as the first team this season, so I’m looking forward to seeing if they can just get over the line now.

“The lads wouldn’t be in the position they’re in without being confident in their ability and they’ve got there by beating a lot of teams and playing well across the entire season, so I definitely think coming into these last two games they’ll be able to get that win they need.”
