What was your first match? February 1975 at home against Fulham in the FA Cup.  We lost 2-1.  Bobby Moore was Fulham’s captain.  I just remember the green pitch as I went up the steps in the Upper Gwladys.  I remember the ‘clunk’ of the wooden seats whenever people got up as we attacked. I even wrote about this day in my O-Level English exam!

Who is your all time favourite player? I would have to say Paul Bracewell. He was such a great player to watch.  His Everton career was cruelly cut short by injury but for me he was at the heart of the greatest club football team I have ever watched.  I never perfected the Bracewell hair though!

Who is your favourite current player?  I love watching Theo Walcott. I always admired him in an Arsenal shirt and I do think he has added a dimension to our game - and goals!

What is your usual pre-match ritual?  I go the match with my wife, Jannette, and my daughter, Isabelle.  We sit in the Main Stand near the church.  We usually go for lunch, grab a drink in the fan zone or Winslow whilst we debate the team selection and choose our final score and first scorer for our online bets.  We always have to go and tap our plaque near Dixie - this is an essential part of the day. It says, ‘Allez les bleus!’.  We go in the ground about quarter to three and chat to friends and then Z Cars rings out and we enjoy quality family time together.

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? As a teenager I used to get in the ground as the gates opened.  I just loved watching the ground gradually fill and the familiar noises of matchday.  Innocent days but days when we won leagues and cups so fond memories.

What is your favourite away ground? Sadly I don’t get to many away games but my ‘lucky’ ground has been Ewood Park where I have never seen us lose.  Great memories of Bakayoko in 1999!  I went there to watch my French team, Lyon, there too when they beat Balckburn in the UEFA Cup so it’s definitely a lucky ground for me.

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Easy. Thierry Henry. He was first class.

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be?  I still think we could do something with Half Time! Where I sit in MS1 the area behind the stand is a tad cramped so I stay in my seat and would love something better to watch at half time.

What was your first match? 1978 vs Watford (I think) my mum’s brothers took me. My dad is a red and tried to make me one, but once I walked into Goodison the hairs on the back of my neck and my arms went up, it was electric, nothing like Anfield. I must've always been a blue but didn't know because of my Kopite dad.

Who is your all time favourite player? Bob Latchford / Neville Southall. Bob because he was the first goals I saw, he was massive to thr 7 year old me and I am lucky enough to have spent quite a bit of time with him in recent years.  Neville - well because he was just Everton wasn't he? Some of the saves that man pulled off were astounding.

Who is your favourite current player? Jordan Pickford / Seamus Coleman / Tom Davies. I just enjoy watching them.

What is your usual pre-match ritual? Don't really have one, it all depends on who I'm meeting before the game, if I am meeting new fans I'm there early to take them around the outside of the ground and show them some scouse hospitality. If I'm meeting old friends they normally park outside mine and we walk down together.

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? The first game I brought my brother to. The smile on his face the knowing he was one of us, I still cherish that day 30 years later.

What is your favourite away ground? Probably Old Trafford.

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Hard one this, Kenny Dalglish or Thierry Henry. The game was just effortless to them. If you could make one change to matchday what would it be?  To get rid of all the moaners and let people enjoy the game. Not to watch another goal against us.

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be?  To get rid of all the moaners and let people enjoy the game. Not to watch another goal against us.

Nick Mernock

Nick Mernock

Area of the Stadium: Paddock (PP4)
Point of Contact for: Fan GroupsWhat was your first match? My first game was Everton v Tranmere Rovers League Cup 2nd round on 3rd September 1968 with goals from Ball, Royle and two from Alan Whittle. It was a classic Everton team first team that night , unlike the second strings that get put out now , and I remember coming up the stairs in the main stand and seeing a floodlight illuminated Goodison for the first time. I know it’s a well worn statement , but Goodison under the lights is the best, and continues to be.

Who is your all time favourite player?
My first hero was Alan Ball and my mum hand stitched a number 8 onto the back of my first Everton shirt ( non of that heat printing then) , although despite as a kid learning to sing “ whose the greatest of them all ...Alan Ball “ I must admit I occasionally changed it to Joe Royle.

Who is your favourite current player?
Over the last few years the change over of players , and inconsistent seasons have made it difficult for one current player to stand out. For me if you play for the shirt , and Understand the club that’s a good start. Currently I think Digne looks a great player , and a really hope Michael Keane develops this year into a future captain.

What is your usual pre-match ritual?
Pre-match varies because of Sky changing days and kick off times . Saturdays is travel with my son and my mate Steve, park up and try and balance a KFC and a pint into pre match. If it’s Sunday lunchtime it’s watch my son Callum play first in the morning then dash over dropping him off while I miss the first ten minutes trying to find somewhere to park.

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories?
I went to the Cup winners Cup Final in Rotterdam with my wife Trish by coach , we had already lost my mate who fell down a flight of stairs the night before and ended up in hospital and little did I know I was to lose Mrs Mernock later. Great day in Rotterdam some beers with the fans in the afternoon, and then up to the ground a mass game of football against the Police outside the stadium , than a surreal cup final when you just knew you were going to win from the first minute. Saw us lift our first European trophy then on the coach for a long happy session home with bottles of everything flying around Unfortunately Mrs M has a low drink threshold but is to polite to say no when offered a drink , we had hardly got out of the car park before she was fast asleep and no amount of singing , or shouting saw her come round till she was helped onto the Ferry

What is your favourite away ground?
As an away ground I have always enjoyed Villa Park , we have a good record there as well as happy memories of cup semi-final victories (isn’t it about time we went back to neutral venues). I have to say Villa Park was best when it was still a standing section . I remember Standing on the Holte End for the semi-finals was immense as it was normally split and created such a good atmosphere.

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park?
A lot of opposition players had a good day at Goodison , but consistently from a British perspective a great player for me was David Beckham on his day he could be a match winner on his own. From a non-British perspective it is Thierry Henry

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be? Bring back the cushions that used to be put on seats, and quite regularly lobbed on the pitch at the end of a bad game. At least that way people can express their anger with a cushion then go home and hopefully stop the pathetic booing , especially of our young players that some fools feel is appropriate at the moment.

What was your first match? My first match was when I was 6 a friend took me to watch Everton v Aston Villa. I remember in those days standing on a crate so I could see the action. I was so overwhelmed by the atmosphere and the passion - once Everton touches you - well 52 years later it’s still in my blood

Who is your all time favourite player? It has to be big Bob Latchford. I used to sit between pro and anti atch supporters and even when he scored the anti latch supporter would still say he could have done better. Also loved Dave Thomas with those socks around his ankles and those in swinging crosses - just magic

Who is your favourite current player? My current favourite is Seamus Coleman - he sums up our club and has time for everyone. A true gentleman.

What is your usual pre-match ritual? Nowadays it involves getting to the ground early. I always walk the same route and still get excited when the old lady comes into view.

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? I have loads of memories but I was privileged to see us lift titles and FA cups - I hated that cannon league trophy but remember that atmosphere around Goodison and the team parading the trophy around the ground.

What is your favourite away ground? Sadly I don’t get away too much now but remember fondly Aston Villa and especially Wembley and hoping for a return there this season.

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Hard to say, if they ain’t in Everton colours I don’t care but probably Cristiano Ronaldo

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be? It’s a shame today’s game is becoming a non-contact sport. Officials are spoiling the game as I love to see good, fair tackles.

What was your first match? My first Everton game was with my husband Clem on 13th August 1995. It was Everton v Blackburn in the Charity Shield. Everton won 1-0 and even though I came from a family of Evertonians, at the age of 23 I had never been a game! Girls just didn’t go the match. I saw Dave Watson lift the trophy and I was hooked and have been going home and away ever since.

Who is your all time favourite player? There’s a few. Tim Cahill, Pat Van den Hauwe, Duncan Ferguson but Mikel Arteta wins it for me. I loved his friendship with Tim Cahill. I like they way he played and he didn’t look too bad either!

Who is your favourite current player?  In our team at the minute it has to be Seamus, he is an Evertonian I love him and everything he stands for. He’s what I expect from an Everton player and a gentleman. He just gets us Everton fans.

What is your usual pre-match ritual? When we go the game we all get ready for the match and everyone meets at my house. I always take my old Everton scarf on Matchdays, home and away.  We take my nephew and my friend’s little boy with us as well (we converted him). We sit in separate rows behind each other, it works well as we all whisper in each other’s ear!

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? Chelsea in Feb 2011. Phil Neville scored the winner to put Everton into the last 16 off the FA Cup.  Ashley Cole blazed his penalty over the stand and Neville placed his kick into top corner to seal the win. The celebrations were wild - the players with the fans! It was the best I’ve experienced. We met Phil Neville after the game, it was just the best day ever!

What is your favourite away ground?  My favorite away grounds are Aston Villa and Arsenal - the old and the new. Aston Villa is close to the pitch like Goodison and the Emirates is like a mini Wembley. I enjoy going to both.

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Thierry Henry - he was just class everything about him.

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be?  If there could be one change to my match day it would be heated seats. I’m always freezing and in the family enclosure we get wind and rain, so heated seats would be fab.

What was your first match? The home derby, which finished 0-0, in 2000 was one of my first. But one of my earliest abiding memories is the Rooney goal against Arsenal in 2002.

Who is your all time favourite player? Tim Cahill was always a player who embodied the Everton spirit and consistently delivered the goods. And what a leap!

Who is your favourite current player?  I have a lot of respect for Seamus Coleman and his unequivocal service over the years. He cares. Cenk Tosun seems a great guy, too.

What is your usual pre-match ritual? Depending on the kick off time, I'll typically go for a pint or brew with my Dad and brother, then we'll head across. There's always eagerness for the team news!

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? There's a few. Derby moments (cc Andy Johnson and Dan Gosling); 'that' Fiorentina game for atmosphere; Sylvester Stallone rocking up.

What is your favourite away ground? I like The Emirates more than most. The London away days are always early starts and anticipation quickly builds.

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Cristiano Ronaldo stands out as one. Didier Drogba was some player, too. He always caused us problems with his power.

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be? The atmosphere is a hot topic, but when the team is on song, it's unrivalled. Not least under the lights.

What was your first match? Sheffield United for me.  I attended with my Dad and 2 Uncles. Gwladys was all standing and there were the white barriers set out at intervals across the terrace.  My Dad sat me on one of the barriers to the left of the  goal in the Lower Gwladys as you look at it from the pitch. It was magical.  I can never remember the score, but for me it wasn’t about the score it was the feeling… it was magical.  We won, I know that.

My Dad walked me up the few steps, but as a kid it felt like I was walking up a massive flight of stairs.  He told me it would be amazing and it was, it took my breath away when I saw the green of the grass and the expanse of it!  Wow !!!

Who is your all time favourite player? My all time favourite player is Bob Latchford – because my Dad idolised him and I idolised my Dad.  There are many that have come close (Kevin Sheedy / Big Dunc / Tim Cahill / Seamus – obviously), but if I HAD to choose just one …. I think Bob would win.

Who is your favourite current player? Seamus Coleman without a shadow of a doubt.  Character, Blue Blood, Drive, Focus, Talent and basically, an all round ‘good person’.

What is your usual pre-match ritual? If I’m not ‘on duty’  with my Fans’ Forum colleagues, I can usually be found in the Winslow with my lad having a pre-match livener”

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories?  I’d say it was the Qtr Final of the FA Cup, against  Middlesbrough.  8th March 2009.  I was lucky enough to get a ticket for my Dad and he joined me and Matty in the Upper Bullens that day.  It was a tight match.  We went 1-0 down but King Louis (Saha) scored the winner after Felli had levelled things a little earlier.  We were ecstatic!!  I remember vividly that My Dad picked Matty up and swung him round and round in sheer joy.  It’s so personal to me because my dad passed away on 21st March that year… literally days after we’d celebrated.  I remember walking back to the car, down the back of the Gwladys Street – all the Street End were pouring out of the turnstiles and everyone was singing and chanting.  The atmosphere was electric.  I thought ‘this is my family’ …. I meant ‘everyone’ there…..My Dad and Matty were walking next to me, My Dad was holding Matty’s hand, he was so proud, shoulders high, chest out …. Absolutely made up, reliving (I’m sure) his heyday times in the 60’s when he was a young man, following his beloved Blues.  My memory of that game is so unbelievably precious.

What is your favourite away ground? I sadly don’t get to too many away grounds (on my bucket list) – so I’ll have to say Wembley!  Why?  Just because … and one day, I will leave that ground in absolute raptures … I know it!!

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Cristiano Ronaldo – no question.  Skill / poise / confidence – love him, he’s a footballing genius

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be? Porn Star Martinis available on the concourse...other than that, it’s pretty damn good for me

What was your first match? 26th August 1980, League Cup v Blackpool.  We won 3-0 and I still have my ticket inside my programme.  I remember sitting in the main stand with my dad and I loved everyone singing and the sense of belonging.

Who is your all time favourite player? Pat Van Den Hauwe - nothing better than when he ran past an opponent and caught them in the face with his elbow.

Who is your favourite current player? Seamus Coleman - he gets us.  He understands the fan base and shares our commitment and vision.

What is your usual pre-match ritual? It depends upon the game.  I attend with family and we like to get to Goodison early.  Sometimes we meet up with friends, I hate being late and getting to Goodison just for the kick off.

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? The 4-4 Derby in 1991 - I was standing at the front of the Lower Gwladys with my dad.  Tony Cottee got the 4th to equalise in the 114th minute. Hysteria,  my dad shouted "I'm going!", I looked up and he'd jumped over the wall and ran onto the pitch.  He's still the same.

What is your favourite away ground? I love away games.  I like the Emirates but I haven't seen us win there yet!  I also like the Etihad (as their facilities are good) and Old Trafford (their catering is great).

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Thierry Henry - he seemed like a magician.  Never saw him have a bad game at Goodison, seemed like he controlled everything and we couldn't get near him.

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be? Affordable, decent food and drink available.  Nobody wants to sit near a 'hangry' person at the game.

What was your first match? I remember Joe Royle's First game as manager - 21st November 1994 - vs 'them' under the lights! Lower Bullens - I had been to loads of games before with my Grandad, but this was the one that hooked me in - Duncan's header, Rideout with the second - what a night!

Who is your all time favourite player? Tim Cahill - scored so many goals against big teams and gave his all every time he stepped onto the field for us - Arteta and Kanchelskis up there too

Who is your favourite current player?  Seamus Coleman - my Grandad came over from Ireland and started to follow Everton - he is the reason our family all follow the blues now and he would've loved Seamus. He epitomises Everton to me

What is your usual pre-match ritual? Walk up past the Royal Oak, maybe a visit to the Church or meet some mates in the fanzone, I always use turnstyle 71 in the Park End

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? Getting tear-gassed in Lille was an interesting way to spend a Thursday afternoon off work! An obvious one but Nuremburg away was incredible!

What is your favourite away ground?  The Etihad - we’ve had some good wins there

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? I remember Aimar having a great game for Benfica at Goodison - i think he only played about 30 minutes as he came off the bench, but he was a different class - they had a great team with the likes of Di Maria and Saviola too

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be?  Stopping the bloke behind me shouting 'get in' every time an opposition player has a shot! They usually sail over the bar or go miles wide which makes it even more annoying!!!

What was your first match? A pre-season friendly against Gornik Zabrze in August 1991, played as part of the Robert Warzycha transfer. We won 3-0.

Who is your all time favourite player? Neville Southall. I was too young to see him at his absolute prime in the 80s, but even as I grew up in the 90s he was still immense.

Who is your favourite current player? Jordan Pickford.

What is your usual pre-match ritual? Usually a few pints in The Springfield or in town.

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? Watching a pre-season game in Tanzania. A group of Evertonians ended up sitting amongst the VIP seats, so we joined the dignitaries, including Robert Elstone, Leon Osman, and the Tanzanian president, at their half-time buffet. I don't think they were too impressed.

What is your favourite away ground? The old White Hart Lane.

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? At his prime, Thierry Henry was probably the player I most feared.

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be? A private bar, solely for my personal use, so I can get a pint at half-time quicker than usual!

What was your first match? My first match was Aston Villa at home in 1998. We drew 0-0 and John Collins missed a pen.

Who is your all time favourite player? Tim Cahill and Leighton Baines. Two top players for us over the years. You could always rely on Cahill for a last minute equaliser or winner. He just never gave up. Baines was the best left back in the world for a few years and was one half of a great left side.

Favourite current player? Still love Bainsey but Seamus Coleman would be my choice these days.

Pre-match ritual? Walk along to The Dark House with my dad, have a few drinks with him and our mates. I'll often go and check out what's upstairs in St Luke's as well.

Favourite match day memory? Going to Kharkiv with my dad. I was 15 and meant to be doing mock GCSE's. We've been all over Europe together but that one sticks out as being particularly special.

Favourite away ground? Don't have one really but I'll go with the old Upton Park. It was a good traditional ground like Goodison.

Favourite opposition player? Easily Riquelme. He was the most classy midfielder I've ever seen. Cristiano Ronaldo and Thierry Henry both deserve a mention as well.

Change one thing about match day? Early kick offs, they're a nightmare with a hangover. I still think match days should be Saturday at 3pm but sadly those days are gone for good.

What was your first match? Feb 1973, Spurs.  I was seven years old.  We lost that day (quelle surprise) but I still remember the thrill of walking up the stairs in that crowd with my beloved dad holding my hand tight.  I was seven years old and can still remember the smells, the noise and the sense of anticipation (and disappointment).

Who is your all time favourite player? Duncan Ferguson.  The derby goal, the FA Cup; Man Utd; Hyypia….. should I continue?

Who is your favourite current player? Seamus Coleman.  Cos he was an absolute steal; he's shown loyalty and dedication and despite that awful break he came back fighting.

What is your usual pre-match ritual?  I pick up my sister, we switch on Radio Merseyside for the pre-match discussion, park up at the Isla Gladstone and walk to the Fans' Zone.  She has a couple of wines, I have a cider or a hot chocolate (depending on the weather :)) We join in the crowd activities and about 15 minutes before kick off we join the exodus and take our seats with fingers crossed.

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? November 2017, my sister, my nephews and I came to the game the day after my darling mum Vera died.  We beat West Ham 4-0 that night (one of the few highlights of that season) and somehow I knew they'd done it for Vera or she'd done it for us!

What is your favourite away ground? Craven Cottage.  It's a lovely, traditional ground that reminds me of Goodison, the allocated seats are usually good and my mate lives round the corner so I can walk to the match (and the pub)

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Kevin de Bruyne - class.

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be? Six inches more cover from the roof in the Paddock!!!

What was your first match? Too young to remember, however confident it was during the 2002/03 season.

Who is your all time favourite player? It has to be Tim Cahill. As another one of my favourites, Mikel Arteta, put it in a recent interview, he was quite simply "the identity of the club". He gave everything for the club, and still to this day boasts about his love for the blues, despite leaving in 2012.

Who is your favourite current player? Seamus Coleman. The passion and excitement he brings onto the pitch is second to none. His defending and attacking is just a joy to watch down that right hand side, and with this, he is genuinely just a down-to-earth, nice guy.

What is your usual pre-match ritual? It depends on who I go with. If my dad comes the match, we will usually go and get some food on the way to Goodison, then get the bus from Old Swan, have a walk around the ground,  often talking about when his dad went with him, and then head to our seats. However, I often go down with my mate and his dad. As we drive up, we will talk about the line-up, put our bets on and give our score predictions; just like I'm sure everyone else will.

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? One that always comes to mind is when we played Crystal Palace in 2005. Although it wasn't a big game, I always remember my dad lifting me up with pure joy as both Mikel Arteta & James Vaughan's both scored their first Everton goals, and celebrating with my mate, as it was one of his first games.

What is your favourite away ground? Couldn't say I have one as I don't get to many unfortunately. I've visited 3 away grounds with Everton; Wolfsburg, Wembley and Stoke. I look to get to more in the future, starting this season.

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Hard to think, but off the top of my head, I'd say Didier Drogba & David Silva are definitely up there.

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be? The queue for the toilet haha. Honestly, its a necessary evil, but I'm pretty sure I have missed some stand out moments in a game, all because I would be standing up somewhere else for a few minutes, instead of going at half-time.

What was your first match? Leyton Orient in the 2001-02 FA Cup, I thought I was a lucky charm because we won but that's definitely been disproven since.

Who is your all time favourite player? Leighton Baines, probably the only player in my time that could have slotted into any team in the world (and stayed with us). Him and Pienaar down the left were probably my favourite players to watch of that Moyes era.

Who is your favourite current player?  At the moment probably Richarlison, still very early days but I've always been a fan of flair players and he looks like the type that could get fans out of their seats with that bit of magic we've been lacking for a while.

What is your usual pre-match ritual? Not much of a ritual usually, my dad will pick me and my cousin up and head to the ground 5/10 minutes before kick off and we'll grab a pint at half time. But for the bigger games we can usually squeeze in a few on County Road pre-game and then a few more after depending on the result.

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? Making a bet with my Dad that if we beat United in the 2009 FA cup semi final, I could have the next day off school and him then having to explain why I was staying off school to my mum when we got back from London.

What is your favourite away ground? I used to like the big allocations we got at the likes of Wigan and Blackburn but in terms of the actual stadium, probably Old Trafford.

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Frank Lampard seemed to score a screamer every time we played Chelsea so he'd probably be the player I hated us playing against most.

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be?  Bring back the dodgy old scoreboard with the clapping hands.

What was your first match? Everton v Keflavik in 1971 in the European cup , I was in the boys pen with my sister Linda, we won 6.2 and I remember being mesmerised by Alan Ball and Alan whittle.  I think Bally and Howard Kendall both got a Hatrick

Who is your all time favourite player? We all agree Duncan McKenzie is magic

Who is your favourite current player?  I remember the Stoke game in the pouring down rain and Duncan ran across the pitch dribbling his way around the Stoke team they just couldn't get the ball off him , he was magic to me as a kid. I adored him

What is your usual pre-match ritual? That's a hard one , none of the current team as of yet inspire me , maybe Coleman for his endeavour but in all honesty I can't pick one

Tell us one of your favourite matchday memories? Ohhhhhhh Andy is our King ohh and is our King ohh Andy is our King. The first time I saw us beat the Second club of the city

What is your favourite away ground? Anywhere where the toffees play really but if I had to pick one it would be Villa park , the memories of all the semi finals etc

Who was the best player for an opponent you have seen at Goodison Park? Has to be Bernie the bolt Wright for Walsall against us in the FA cup , he was that bad we signed him the week later. Seriously it has to be Ryan Giggs , I remember him ripping us to pieces as a young lad.

If you could make one change to matchday what would it be?  Better catering facilities for a start but that will hopefully come with the new stadium.  I would like to see our fans bring more flags and banners into the stadium and more new songs and chants.
